Business Divorce Litigation
What do you do when you can no longer operate your business with your current business partner?
Maybe you founded the business together, or one of you bought into an already-formed enterprise. Perhaps you really enjoyed working together in the past but no longer find collaboration fulfilling. Maybe your business is flourishing, but you have different ideas about the organization's future.
Whatever the situation, you are now trying to figure out what comes next and how to get there.
At L&L, we are here to help. We are dedicated to helping our clients navigate the challenges of a business divorce and achieve success. Our lawyers have years of experience fighting for our clients’ rights in their businesses of all types, including corporations, partnerships, limited liability companies (LLCs), and complicated groups of business entities.
Types of Disputes
L&L handles all kinds of business divorce disputes. These include:
-
Business divorces between members in limited liability companies (LLCs), shareholders in corporations, and partners in partnerships
-
Complex business divorces between principals who operate multiple different business entities with varying ownership participation
-
Complex business divorce between principals who operate multiple business entities with varying ownership participation, after one group pursued an additional, separate business venture alone
-
Complex family business divorce involving multiple family-owned business entities, multiple real properties, and multiple ongoing businesses
No matter how or why you got into business together, you don’t have to stay united when it no longer makes sense. And you don’t need to sacrifice your rights when you need to go your separate ways.

Our Process
We typically begin by gathering the pertinent information from our clients about the business relationship and relevant entity or entities. We do this by conducting comprehensive discussions with our clients and analyzing available agreements, correspondence, and related documentation. We also help our clients understand and evaluate the financial realities often associated with business divorces and remaining in the business.
Sometimes, resolving the matter quickly and efficiently at the outset through pre-suit negotiation makes the most sense. Other times, pre-suit alternative dispute resolution is required by written agreement. However, pre-suit negotiation often won’t work. And when your business partners are unwilling to engage in reasonable pre-suit negotiations or negotiations fail, we pursue justice through the court system.
At L&L, we have vast experience litigating cases through trial. When necessary, we may approach these cases through the appellate process and post-judgment enforcement proceedings to secure a favorable outcome for our clients.
